Veronica Galvan, Ph.D. -Assistant Professor of Physiology, Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies
Dr. Galvan will describe recent groundbreaking advances in our understanding of the biology of aging, and will explain the implications of these discoveries for brain aging and neurological diseases of aging, especially Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Dr. Galvan will present the latest advances in her laboratory that led to the identification of a specific protein, called “target of rapamycin” or “TOR” that may have a critical role in making aged brains vulnerable to Alzheimer’s and other diseases of aging affecting the central nervous system, as well as the potential for drugs that target this protein as therapies to prevent and treat AD.
