The Friends of the C. G. Jung Institute Presents:

AFTER THE CALL OF LIFE: A discussion of the psychological meaning of the species extinction  and reason for hope.

With Dr. David Ulansey

Sunday, January 27, 2013 | At the Institute | 2 - 5 PM

Reservation required, closing date January 23  ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED **Please contact Deborah O'Grady at debogrady@mac.com to inquire if extra seating is available.***

Dr. David Ulansey is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Religion at the California Institute of Integral Studies, and a producer of the award-winning film Call of Life. Following the successful screening and discussion of his film in 2012, he will lead an exploration of whether the current environmental crisis is a symptom of something having gone “wrong with the psyche,” or whether it is instead a meaningful, self-generated challenge—something like a collective trial of initiation—with the potential to open the way to a decisively new and fruitful stage in the destiny of humanity.

The talk will also explore an unexpected third possibility—a “tertium quid”—strongly supported by Jung’s work: namely, that how we interpret the meaning of this moment might in the end determine whether its outcome is pathological or redemptive.  For, as Jung said, “Whatever explanation of interpretation does... we do to our own souls as well.”  (The Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious, par. 271)

For those who did not see the film “Call of Life” in January of 2012, or who would like to review it again, it may be streamed online at
It is highly recommended that you also watch this 5-minute video on youtube:
