Africa Investment Funds and Asset Management (AIFAM) Forum 2013
Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 8:00 AM - Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 4:00 PM (CAT)
Johannesburg, South Africa
AFRICA is on the fast lane towards becoming an economic hub and an investment destination for indigenous and foreign investors. The transformation is regardless of the tradition of scepticism generated by a spate of negativity that still make it to the headlines. Amongst the momentum boosters for this rapid economic transition are the indigenous investment funds whose asset value growth rate is currently paced at about 5 times over the past six years and the continent is continuing to thrive.
This economic growth is attracting a trail of indigenous pension funds and sovereign wealth funds with investors seeking more investment opportunities as they become more exposed to the wide dispensation opportunities within the borders of AFRICA.
Despite the fact that the pension fund industry in much of the continent is still in its infancy, there is no doubt that it is going to play an increasingly bigger role in supporting AFRICA’s economic growth. The growth rate of AFRICA’s pension funds so far, as impressive as it may be, is still too insignificant if compared to the asset values owned by international equity funds and this means indigenous equity funds have a challenge and opportunity for sustainable growth.
Following the resounding success of a series of events; Fund & Asset Consulting Forum - March 2012 (South Africa); Africa Pension and Sovereign Funds Investment Forum - September 2012 (United Kingdom), Swaziland Retirement Funds Investment Forum – November 2012; Zambia Pension Funds Investment Forum – March 2013; Zimbabwe Pension Funds Investment Forum – April 2013, the AIFAMF 2013 will be a follow up and will provide a broad based opportunity for Investment and Pension Funds and their managers across the continent to be updated with global trends pension fund investment strategies. Under the theme “Accelerating Africa's Sustainable Economic Growth through Pension Funds Investment” the 2013 will provide investment framework integration opportunities through an important platform that will bring together global and regional key decision makers and stakeholders to formulate best strategies for achieving unified goals for a sustainable economy in Africa.
