Fight for Lower Taxes at our
Tax Freedom Day Event
in Trenton, Thursday, May 2!
Would you believe that it takes New Jersey taxpayers 124 days of the year to pay their entire federal, state and local tax bill for the year to Uncle Sam?
You and I know just how suffocating the tax climate is in our state and how damaging it is to our state’s competitiveness and ability to create jobs here, but when it’s put in terms like this it hits home.
New Jersey taxpayers are working a third of the year just to fund the largesse of government. To put this in perspective, back in 1900 less than 6% of an average American’s income went to taxes. Today, it’s 33%!
While Tax Freedom Day for the entire nation comes on April 18, New Jersey taxpayers do not break the shackles of Big Government until May 4 -- exactly one week from today! Only two states—New York (May 6) and Connecticut (May 13)—are worse off than New Jersey. And believe it or not, even states infamous for high taxes and government spending -- California and Massachusetts – celebrate Tax Freedom Day more than a week before New Jersey!
New Jersey must change course and reduce the tax burden on its citizens and job creators if our state is going to become prosperous again!
If you agree that it’s time to do something about New Jersey’s crippling tax burden then join AFP at the State House in Trenton next Thursday, May 2 at 11am! We will be joined by two Tax Foundation economists who will explain their formula for identifying Tax Freedom Day and show why New Jersey is one of the three highest taxed states in the nation. A number of legislators are expected to join us as well.
