Event Details

Dr. Eva Fogelman is a social psychologist, author, and filmmaker, and is in private practice in New York City. Dr. Fogelman, who was born in a displaced persons camp in Kassel, Germany after World War II, was one of the first psychotherapists to lead groups for children of Holocaust survivors. She is an advisor to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and in 1986 founded the Jewish Foundation for Christian Rescuers with Rabbi Harold Schulweis.
On November 4, Dr. Fogelman will be speaking about the Rescuer Project, a collection of interviews with more than 300 rescuers in North America, Israel, and various European and Eastern European countries. The results of these interviews are chronicled in Dr. Fogelman's book, Conscience and Courage. Dr. Fogelman writes, "This book looks at those few who defied authority and put themselves at risk to act humanely. These are their stories...it is my hope that these acts of compassion, too, will never be forgotten, and that they will be repeated again and again and again."
Dr. Fogelman's visit is part of Adventist University of Health Sciences' Colloquium series. The University Colloquium is an interdisciplinary program designed to engage faculty, staff, students, and members of the community in conversation. Adventist University of Health Sciences is a Seventh-day Adventist institution that specializes in healthcare education. The University's guiding philosophy, Healthcare as Ministry, is based on the idea that true wellness is not achieved through medical care alone, but through healing relationships that speak to peoples' minds, bodies, and souls. This philosophy underpins each course of our associate, bachelor's, master's, and online programs.
