Sequence, Proposition, Plot:
Your Key to a Better Screenplay

Jeff Kitchen has taught his plot construction tool, Sequence, Proposition, Plot to development execs from all the major Hollywood studios and they consistently say it’s the most advanced development tool in the film industry. Why?

Because they know how hard it is to make screenplays work, and they recognize that Jeff’s remarkable three-step process is jam-packed with structural and dramatic power. It gives them a dynamic tool that enables them to accurately articulate a script’s problems and create effective solutions.

As a writer, you can use Sequence, Proposition, Plot to construct scripts that are tight and dramatic, with each of their components functioning perfectly as a part of the whole.

Step one, Sequence, is the sequence of events that your script consists of. They should be linked together by cause and effect such that plot point one causes plot point two, which causes plot point three, and so on through to the ending. You create this forward flow by working backward from the ending, chaining back from an effect to its cause. This separates the necessary from the unnecessary, stripping out any story elements that don’t directly advance your plot—a crucial skill for the dramatist as the work of the amateur is characterized by the unnecessary. Steps two and three, Proposition and Plot, beef up the conflict in your story, making sure it gets your audience on the edge of their seat and keeps them there. They provide an x-ray of the existing conflict in your story, find its weak points, and then help amplify the conflict to provide maximum dramatic power.

Sequence, Proposition, Plot is a systematic approach to structuring and dramatizing your story that enables you to bring order to the necessary chaos of creating a story. It works in any genre and can give you a remarkable degree of control over your screenplay. The basic idea is that you can take all the energy that goes into rewrites and put it into engineering your script properly before you write it.

Every element in your screenplay needs to advance your plot.

Register now and learn the structure that is sure to make your screenplay tight and dramatic!
