Creating Positive Change:
Motivational Interviewing and Youth

Is there such a thing as an unmotivated young person? Do you sometimes struggle to motivate youth? Using video, role play, and youth scenarios, this workshop will examine the guiding principles of an approach called Motivational Interviewing. Through exploring the stages of change, you will learn how to plan interventions that meet the youth where s/he is and help them move forward in their life. You will build skills to facilitate conversations with young people that decrease their ambivalence and build motivation for positive change. You will learn to listen for and elicit a young person’s internal reasons for making changes in their lives.
