Tulsa, United States
ENOSERV and instructor Robert Hafer have joined together to present the Advanced Relays Training Course.
The student relay technicians will be led through this fast-paced three-day course by a working relay technician who has experienced the problems that the new relay technician will encounter. With his 15 years of experience as a relay technician tempered by 30 years of hands-on experience in generation and substation maintenance, Robert is able to speak the language of the students!
Attend the class at the Enoserv Training Facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma and you will receive presentations on:
- NERC PRC-005 and the Relay Technician
- Avoiding unplanned Trips
- Tools of the Trade - language of relay protection, print reading, event analysis, root cause analysis, communications, and more
- Station specific overview - specific protection requirements for distribution, transmission, and generation stations
- The “Good Trip”
Practical mathematics for relay techs (answers the question "Do I really need a degree in math to be a Relay Tech?")
Ground Directional IRD-9 – introduction to ohmic relays
KD-10 Distance – mho circles and the impedance relay
Multi-function digital Relays
SEL-751A – the replacement for the IAC ,CO, AC-1 and more!
SEL-311C - workhorse of digital distance relays
You will learn:
The importance of Communications
- Requirements for a “good NERC audit”
- Clues to “Trips”
- The use of the R - X Diagram in relay work
Practical application of Symmetrical components
The torque-producing components in an ohmic relay
Maintenance and operation of a distance relay
The capabilities of multi-function digital relays
Prerequisites of this course include a math background in basic algebra and trigonometry. Students need a working knowledge of D.C. and A.C. theory with practical experience preferred in circuit analysis and troubleshooting. Previous exposure to protective relays will be helpful but is not necessary. Knowledge of IEEE Device numbers will greatly assist the student in class exercises involving print reading. Students need to bring a laptop computer equipped with a serial port or a USB to Serial adapter and a handheld calculator.
ENOSERV training courses are held at the ENOSERV Training Facility. Only ENOSERV presents training on any type of test set with numerous electromechanical and digital relay types. All classrooms were built from the ground up with only relay testing training in mind. Refreshments and lunches will be provided by ENOSERV. Attendees should bring his/her laptop with RTS installed.
