The Association for Divorce Financial Planners (ADFP) is pleased to invite you to the bi-monthly meeting of its Boston chapter. The ADFP is a non profit organization dedicated to educating the public about financial issues with respect to divorce.
Our speaker this month will be Clare McGorrian. Attorney McGorrian represents individuals in health insurance and disability benefits matters, including post-divorce health insurance challenges. Ms. McGorrian is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Harvard College.
Ms. McGorrian will speak about Health Coverage Issues in Divorce. Massachusetts requires continued eligibility for a former spouse’s group health insurance. However, the state law has gaps and does not apply in every situation. Also, state and federal reforms may impact families going through divorce. Attorney McGorrian will give an overview of post-divorce health insurance rights then address related topics such as special issues for same-sex couples, impact of recent law reforms and affordable health plan options.
Ms. McGorrian speaks and writes frequently on the legal aspects of health care access. Among other publications, she is principal author of Staying Healthy: A Guide to Keeping Health Insurance After Divorce, a guidebook produced by the Office of the Attorney General. In addition to her work in Massachusetts, Ms. McGorrian advised New Hampshire advocates on developing a post-divorce health insurance continuation bill.
