Program Description

In 2012, Teach For America - Chicago launched its very first local social entrepreneurship initiative, Accelerate to One Day.  The purpose of the program is to foster a community of alumni social entrepreneurs whose innovative concepts will solve our region’s most salient root causes of educational inequity.  That year, the program supported the launch of 11 social ventures that significantly impacted the lives of our students through various means.  This year, our program is comprised of two cohorts of alumni and second year corps members who represent the entire innovation spectrum, ranging from those who are seeking to partner with like-minded entrepreneurs to start building out their concepts (Emerging Cohort) to those who have already founded their organization but require expert advice to expand (Experienced Cohort). We are proud to announce that this year’s program has supported the launch of another 12 organizations.  We would like to thank the Coleman Foundation for providing the support that makes these ambitious endeavors possible as well as our venue sponsor, Grind LaSalle.

Final Pitch Event Details

On May 14, we will gather mentors, investors, corps members, alumni, and friends to celebrate these entrepreneurs of the "Accelerate to One Day" program.  Guests will be treated to a special keynote address by Michael Keiser (Co-Founder of Recycled Paper Greetings and President of the Brandon Dunes Golf Resort), short business pitches from select cohort members, and light refreshments. In addition, we will announce the finalists of the Accelerate to One Day Chicago Social Innovation Award, aimed to recognize and support the founders of three outstanding ventures.
