Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Marin Civic Center, located in San Rafael, on this guided tour with Richard A. Keding and William Schwarz. With its distinct pink stucco walls and scalloped balconies, the Marin Civic Center is one of the most recognizable buildings in the Bay Area. A state and national historic landmark, the Center was the last commission by Frank Lloyd Wright, completed by Aaron Green in 1962.

This conversation, moderated by the San Francisco Chronicle’s architecture and urbanism writer John King, will explore the history of the Marin County Civic Center, its current uses and proposed future. Architectural historian and professor Paul Turner will discuss the architecture of the civic center in the context of what was happening in the field during the time it was designed; Marin County supervisor and architect Steve Kinsey will discuss what it is currently like to work in the building and how it has been adapted to accommodate changing needs; and architect Mark Cavagnero, FAIA and landscape architect Manuela King will review their proposed master plan for the future of the full civic center site and its relationship to Wright’s original concepts. A discussion with the audience will follow.
