ABroad Stage Company's Cabaret Benefit
Friday, May 29, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM (EDT)
New York, NY
THEATRE LOVERS! A CREATIVE RESPONSE TO GLOBAL CHALLENGE!!!!
Please join us on Friday May 29 in support of ABroad Stage Company (ABSCo), a fledgling multi-cultural theatre effort in NYC, and its premier performance of Jose Rivera’s new adaptation of his own "References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot," directed by Pippin Parker.
The play will be performed from July 9-19 at The New School For Drama Theater in the West Village, and promises to break new ground under Parker’s direction. Parker directed last year’s award-winning production of George Packer’s “Betrayed” at Culture Project. He is a co-founder of Naked Angels Theater Company and Chair of the graduate Playwriting Dept. at The New School for Drama.
WHY THIS? WHY US? WHY NOW?
ABSCo is a freshly-formed company of multi-lingual directors, actors, writers and movement artists. We have convened this effort to make new theater in New York that broadens the experiential bandwidth. Our vision is to forge relationships with artists and audiences of all kinds, finding new ways of addressing global challenges and contemporary life through the magical lens of theater and film. Rather than abide the traditional company model with an Artistic Director responsible for the, ahem, artistic direction, ABSCo's mission is to share each member's unique talent set with each other and with our audiences. As a group of practicing artists, we run workshops together, with a different member taking the lead each time, exploring one member's knack for monologue work, and another's for movement, or stiltwalking, or Shakespeare, etc. We believe that as a group we are more potent artists than we would be on our own. As a company we allow each member to create their dream project, and build our programming taking turns throwing our collective creative power behind each one.
Our kick-off benefit will include an evening of music and theatre, featuring a reading from our upcoming play with special guests. Drinks and merriment begin at 6pm, performance begins at 7.
Musical performances will include:
Original music from New York-based singer-wongwriter Sandy Stones
Amanda Conlon and Michael Morch will perform a selection of their cabaret act “Red and Slim Have Issues” (originally performed at the Lori Beechman Theater)
A selection of songs from ABSCo members.
When & Where
Seed&Spark is a single destination to fund, follow, discover and watch the best of independent film. We're building a #FairTradeFilmmaking movement that serves up delicious films while paying filmmakers a living wage. Weird, huh?
We work with some of our favorite technology and service companies to deliver high quality events anywhere and everywhere we can meet great filmmakers and engaged audiences.
