AAP/AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) Course

Description and Target Audience: The Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Course is designed for health care professionals involved in any aspect of neonatal resuscitation. This includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, nurse midwives, licensed midwives, respiratory care practitioners, and other health care professionals who provide direct care during neonatal resuscitation.


At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of neonatal resuscitation key concepts by successfully completing the NRP online examination.
  • Name the most important and effective action in neonatal resuscitation.
  • Demonstrate appropriate resuscitation procedures in proper sequence for a compromised newborn.
  • Through simulation-based training, identify neonatal resuscitation skills and aspects of teamwork that are well-developed, and those that require continuing improvement.

7:45-7:50       What NRP is, what it is not

7:50-8:00       How the day works

8:00-8:15       What’s the Baby Doing Now?

8:15-8:25       Demonstrate simulation and debriefing

8:25-8:30       Divide into teams

8:30-11:20     Performance Skills Stations:

                        Laryngeal Mask Airway


                        Integrated Skills

                        Simulation and Debriefing

11:20-11:30   Evaluation and adjournment


12:00-12:15   Introductions, paperwork

12:15-12:20   What NRP is, what it is not

12:20-12:30   How the day works

12:30-12:45   What’s the Baby Doing Now?

12:45-12:55   Demonstrate simulation and debriefing

12:55-1:00     Divide into teams

1:00-3:50       Performance Skills Stations:

                        Laryngeal Mask Airway


                        Integrated Skills

                        Simulation and Debriefing

3:50-4:00       Evaluation and adjournment

Testing: Written exam. One-on-one skills testing required.

Course Length: 4.0 hours

Certification Length: 2 years

Includes: Student Manual and certification card.

Location: CoxHealth Education Center, CoxHealth North, K400, 4th Floor, Classroom #1.

Directions: Enter Cox North from the Robberson Ave. Northwest Entrance. Upon entering the building turn right and take the elevator to the 4th floor. You will arrive in the Education Center lobby.
