The Indiana Artisan Marketplace will offer greater access to the state’s best artists and “foodists” when it opens early for “A Taste of the Indiana Artisan Marketplace” preview party. Guests will have the chance to buy one-of-a-kind art and food from more than 150 artisans while booths are stocked fully and the crowd is smaller.
VSA Indiana, formerly Very Special Arts, is co-hosting the event and partnering with Indiana Artisan all weekend. A specially designed gallery will feature work from its statewide network. A portion of every Taste ticket sold benefits VSA Indiana.
The Taste will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, in the Expo Hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Taste guests will be treated to tastes of Indiana Artisan foods. Cheeses from Traders Point Creamery and wines from nine Indiana vintners will be available as guests visit with all the artisans to the music of a string trio from the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra.
Interior designer Chip Kalleen, owner of Indianapolis-based Kalleen & Co., will be on hand to talk with guests about the two Artisan Rooms that are another addition to this year’s Marketplace. Kalleen is lending his design talent to create two room settings showcasing furnishings and décor by Indiana Artisans. Furnishings will run the gamut from rustic to refined and highlight some of the diverse design talent in the State.
The Marketplace will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat., April 6 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun., April 7. Now in its third year, the Marketplace is a chance to buy artwork and artisan food directly from the Hoosiers who make it, to meet the artisans and to share their stories. In addition to browsing the booths, visitors throughout the weekend will enjoy live Indiana music, art and craft demonstrations, and food and drink tasting. Tickets, available at the door on Saturday and Sunday, are $10 for all ages.
Indiana Artisan is craftsmanship. It is fine oils and fine wines, handmade soaps and hand-turned bowls. It is Lake Michigan artists and Ohio River Valley craftsmen. Indiana Artisan is the state’s best craftspeople – from specialty cheese makers to specialty jewelry makers and from the hands of careful beekeepers to the hands of caring weavers. Indiana’s heritage in painting, glass, musical instruments, stoneware, woodwork, candies, brandies and more is defined through Indiana Artisan.
This collaborative organization brings together Indiana’s talented Artisans’ one-of-a-kind art and food creations – in stores and on trails crisscrossing the state. Their select work enriches the lives of Hoosiers and visitors. Indiana Artisan works with participants, retailers and communities to showcase and sell high-quality, handcrafted products in stores and on trails across the state. Follow the River of Glass, sample Art & Earth, find works By Hoosier Hands and more along one of the eight Artisan Trails. As you travel, look for the Indiana Artisan logo on products and in the window of shops, galleries and studios.
