CHARLOTTE CONVENTION CENTER

Children's Home Society of North Carolina is pleased to invite you to the A Place to Call Home luncheon in Charlotte. The event will celebrate our work to meet the needs of North Carolina children and families, and will show how you can play a vital role in changing lives.

Retired Major League Baseball pitcher, sports commentator, product spokesman, and adoptee Jim Palmer will share with you the story of his devoted adoptive family and his successful professional career on May 14. Palmer, who played all of his 19 years in Major League Baseball with the Baltimore Orioles, is considered one of the best pitchers in Orioles and major-league history. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990.

Since his retirement as an active player in 1984, Palmer has worked as a sports commentator on telecasts of MLB games for ABC and ESPN. He has also been a popular pitchman, most famously for Jockey International, for almost twenty years.

Palmer attributes his adoptive family with providing him with the nurturing love and support that led him to a successful career in baseball and beyond.

Carolina Panthers Courage HouseThe event will also feature the announcement of the 2013 Carolina Panthers Ed Block Courage Award Winner and the CHS Alumni Courage Award Winner. Both awards recognize individuals or families who have overcome obstacles and demonstrated that courage is shown on many different playing fields.

Children's Home Society

Children’s Home Society has been serving children and families for more than a century, with programs built on our mission of promoting the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family. Founded in 1902, CHS has placed more than 15,000 children into loving, adoptive homes. But while CHS is perhaps best known for our work related to foster care and adoption, we are much more than a placement agency.  Visit our website to learn more at www.chsnc.org.
