Event Details

Join the Young Professionals from the Metro NY Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women on May 16 for its third annual A Night to Say NO to Violence Against Women, a fundraiser benefiting the UN Trust Fund [to end violence against women].  Our goal is to raise $5,000 and 100% of the profits will go towards the UN Trust Fund. Tullamore Dew Whiskey, Hendricks gin, and Sailor Jerry rum provide tipples for the two-hour open bar, and you can pair cocktails with mini cupcakes from Baked by Melissa. Dee-jays JKL, i rock i roll, and Vikas will supply the tunes. We even have a photo booth thanks to Polite in Public.

We're raffling off two round-trip tickets to anywhere JetBlue flies, an iPad, Yankees tickets, clothing and gift certificates, among tons of other prizes (see below), and 250 people will leave with gift bags worth $75 with items from some of our sponsors.

Additionally, we are trying to increase awareness for the UN Secretary-General's campaign, Say No-UNiTE to End Violence Against Women. To show your support to end the violence, check out Our Action Page.

Advance tickets (before 5pm on May 16th) are $30 for General Admission and $20 for Members. Tickets increase to $40 for General Admission and $30 for Members when purchasing tickets at the door.

We hope to see you there!

Thanks,

The Young Professionals

About "A Night to Say NO"

"A Night to Say NO" was initially a pet project of 5 young professionals who wanted to throw a fundraiser benefitting the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women and simultaneously raise awareness around the UN Secretary General's campaign, Say No-UNiTE to End Violence Against Women. In May 2010, they held an open bar with raffle prizes and, even though they only had about 5 weeks of planning, they raised nearly $5,000.

About the UN Trust Fund [to End Violence Against Women]

According to the Commission of the Status of Women, up to 70% of women and girls will be beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in their lifetime.

The UN Trust Fund in Support of Actions to Eliminate Violence Against Women (UN Trust Fund) was established in 1996 and is managed by UN Women on behalf of the UN system. The UN Trust Fund awards grants annually through an open and competitive process. The majority of its grantees are non-governmental organizations with grants awarded also to governments and UN country teams.

Since it began operations in 1997, the UN Trust Fund has delivered more than $78 million to 339 initiatives in 127 countries and territories. For a list of the most recent grantees, you can visit the site.

About the Say No-UNiTE Campaign

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon's UNiTE to End Violence Against Women campaign aims to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls in all parts of the world. UNiTE brings together a host of UN agencies and offices to galvanize action across the UN system to prevent and punish violence against women. Through UNiTE, the UN is joining forces with individuals, civil society and governments to put an end to violence against women in all its forms. To learn more, click here.
