Event Details

Join dog & pony dc for the unveiling of the first draft of the opening scene of A Killing Game... and an experiment in audience integration approaches linked to game-playing.  We're calling it "Game of Hype."

The Game of Hype is a combination of some of our favorite party games, in the context of the Plague that has hit a modern city. We need your help in setting the rules. This Saturday night June 23 we'll play the first round of the Game, and then we'll play it again... and again.* And in the end, together we hone Round 1 of A Killing Game's Game of Hype.
The evening includes a discussion about game-playing behaviors moderated by Rebecca SheirA Killing Game ensemble member and host of WAMU's Metro Connection.

This event was made possible by the The Humanities Council of Washington, DC.
*In this Game of Hype, the ability to "do-over" is a MUST
What is A Killing Game?  In brief: it's a mash-up of Ionesco's play Killing Game, the Orson Welles 1938 radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds (and it's "aftermath"), and Fluxx the card game with ever-changing rules. A Killing Game is directed by Colin K. Bills. A Killing Game ensemble includes: Wyckham Avery, Joshua Drew, Rachel Grossman, Jessica Lefkow, Shannon Davies Mancus, Elaine Yuko Qualter, J. Argyl Plath, Lorraine Ressegger, Jon Reynolds, Rebecca Sheir, Ivania Stack, Gwydion Suilebhan.

Who is dog & pony dc? We’re a DC- based devised theatre ensemble focused on providing audiences new ways to experience theatre. The company collectively creates new work that playfully explore the elastic relationship between artist and audience. Whether it’s an ultra-violent live-action version of the Punch and Judy puppet show, or an imagined civic ceremony that ignites debate about a time capsule’s contents, We like to think that going to our shows is like going to a concert...a rock concert. Everyone’s energized and engaged in the moment, and sometimes the audience ends up on stage. We’re big fans of moustaches and props.
