A History of Comedy

by Bob Murrell

Join Carl Sagan in this voyage across time and space to discover the origins of comedy and how the way we laugh has changed through time. We’ll explore comedy from the earliest man to the internet age in this hilarious one man show.

‘A History of Comedy’ is a parody of the 1980 television series ‘Cosmos’. In ‘A History of Comedy’, Carl Sagan (Bob Murrell) will guide the audience from the beginning of man’s time on Earth to today. Along the way, the audience will learn about the origins of humor and see how cavemen used to joke. We’ll see how comedy originated in antiquity, grew in literature, and matured in theater. We’ll get to see the progression of staged comedy from Shakespeare to Vaudeville to standup comedy to being filmed. Eventually, we’ll see the evolution of improv comedy, and finishing up with the effects the internet had on comedy. Throughout our journey, live comedy acts will showcase some of these periods of time.

See 'Em On Stage: A Production Company

"See 'Em On Stage: A Production Company" produces works that have originally come to the public's attention as books, movies, or both and have been turned into musical theater plays. We want to bring New Orleans audiences an opportunity to see, 'on stage', productions that they may have only been previously familiar with through other media. Our goal is to provide creative, innovative, memorable, and unique theatrical experiences for our audiences.
