An Initmate Concert with Thao Nguyen, Eleanor Friedberger, Van Pierszalowski & Griel Marcus
Live performances, conversation, Rocky's Frybread, cash bar, DJs
This special event will include intimate live performances by Thao Nguyen, Eleanor Friedberger, and Van Pierszalowski, as well as a conversation with the seminal rock critic Greil Marcus about Buddy Holly.
Greil has been writing about music and culture since the founding of Rolling Stone in the late '60s, where he served as their first reviews editor. His many celebrated books include Mystery Train; Lipstick Traces; The Old, Weird America; Bob Dylan; and The Doors.
Thao is the frontwoman for Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, whose album We the Common appeared earlier this year.
Eleanor is a member of Fiery Furnaces and released the solo album Last Summer in 2011. Her new solo work, Personal Record, is available now.
Van was a member of Port O'Brien and now fronts WATERS, whose album Out in the Light appeared in 2011. He is currently working on the follow-up.
Public Works is located a couple blocks from the 16th Street-Mission BART stop, on a dead-end street called Erie.
Food & Drink & DJ
Starting at 7, we'll have Rocky's Frybread serving Indian tacos out on Erie, and the bar will be open for service. Come have dinner with us, as DJs Amy A and Brynny spin '60s soul, Motown, garage, and girl groups.
Radio Silence is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a volunteer staff. All proceeds and donations from this event will go to charity. And a portion of our revenue is used to buy books and musical instruments for kids.
Check out this video from our first Radio Silence Loft Party.
And here's a video from our recent event, featuring John Vanderslice performing “How the West Was Won” from his forthcoming album Dagger Beach, accompanied by writer Daniel Handler on accordion and Rogue Wave’s Pat Spurgeon on percussion.
When & Where
Radio Silence is literature and rock & roll. We publish a print magazine with new work by writers and musicians; put on live events; and we're a 501(c)3 nonprofit, raising money to buy books and musical instruments for kids.
