A Competency-based Approach to Clinical Supervision

This course meets state licensure requirements for continuing education in clinical supervision.
This workshop is designed to provide the most current information on supervision practice including competencies, benchmarks, development of supervisory relationship, strains and ruptures and repair, diversity, evaluation, legal and ethical aspects, burn-out prevention, and self-care. Management of supervisees who do not meet performance competency standards is also discussed.
Learning objectives for this course include:
1. Develop competence in use of Benchmarks and other competency standards to anchor supervision practice.
2. Identify strategies to promote leadership in supervision.
3. Identify and repair strains and ruptures to the supervisory alliance.
4. Implement diversity infusion into supervision.
5. Identify ethical dilemmas in supervision and steps to problem solve with supervises.
6. Understand issues in identification and remediation of behavior of supervisees that do not meet performance criteria.
Workshop hours will be from 9:00am – 4:00pm (lunch on your own). Check-in will begin at 8:30am
About the Presenter
Carol Falender, Ph.D. is a Consultant, Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and lecturer on supervision, training, supervision ethics, and a wide range of topics on child and adolescent treatment. She is Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University, doctoral program in clinical psychology. She is the co-author of Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach with Edward P. Shafranske, and co-editor of the Casebook for Clinical Supervision: A Competency-based Approach, both published by the American Psychological Association. Visit her website at www.cfalender.com.

This workshop meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Licensed Educational Psychologists (LEPs), and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCCs) as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (Casa Pacifica Centers for Children and Families; Provider 2522).
