Event Details

“A Closer Look at the Civil War” is a three part discussion series presented by the exhibit curators that gives attendees a more detailed look at exhibit items and the history they represent.   The first session in  this series, “The Growing Divide,”  will cover the widening rift between the North and South leading up to the Civil War, and how Kentucky was caught in the middle.  While Kentucky was a slave state, it was in favor of preserving the Union.  Kentuckians were proud of their tradition of supporting the Union.  From the “Great Compromiser,”  Henry Clay, to John J. Crittenden’s failed attempt to avoid Civil War, Kentucky and Kentuckians were major players on the national stage.

This lecture will last approximately 45 minutes, and afterward patrons are invited to tour the “United We Stand, Divided We Fall:  The Civil War in Kentucky and Ohio Valley” exhibit.

Limited Capacity: Reservations are required.

The program will be held on Monday, January 13 at 12:00 noon at The Filson Historical Society Museum, 1310 S. Third Street.  For reservations please call The Filson at 502-635-5083 or visit www.filsonhistorical.org.
