The 9th Annual Grain Growers Conference will be held on March 14, 2013 at The Essex Resort & Spa in Essex, VT.
We’re very excited to welcome Dr. Stephen Jones back to Vermont as one of our keynote speakers! Dr. Jones is the Director of the Washington State University Research and Extension Center at Mount Vernon. He is a renowned wheat breeder and has been integral in the organic grain movement in Washington State.
We also invite you to join us in welcoming Dr. Julie Miller Jones as a keynote speaker. Dr. Miller Jones is a board Certified Nutrition Specialist and Licensed Nutritionist. Currently she is a Distinguished Scholar and Professor Emeritus of Food and Nutrition in the Department of Family, Consumer and Nutritional Sciences at the St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She will discuss William Davis' book, "Wheat Belly: Fact and Fad" and will talk about the ways wheat has changed for the better, how it never was and has not become addictive, and that what is making us fat is too many calories
Grain milling expert Thomas Leonard will be here to discuss the challenges and benefits of producing a single-variety product including issues of quality, consistency, price and marketing. Klaas and Peter Martens from Lakeview Organic Grains in PennYen, NY will be on hand to talk about soil health, grain processing and hulling. There will also be multiple sessions on using grains for animal feed including ration building and more. There will be hands-on baking sessions and much, much more!
