This GO-Kart Racing charity event was founded in 2005 and has been held five times prior to 2013 - we expect the 6th to be better than ever! It benefits the Delta Gamma Foundation, The Vision of Children Foundation, and San Diego’s Braille Institute - all organizations that share Delta Gamma’s mission to help those who are blind or visually impaired through services or research. We're dedicated to funding this very important cause! This event is public—open to anyone & everyone to join in the fun and help our mission to “Do Good.”
WARNING! This isn’t your run-of-the-mill fundraiser. You’re not walking 3.1 miles… or running through Balboa Park. And you’re not eating chicken in a ballroom—those events serve their purpose to be sure, but this particular event is UNIQUE! You and your friends or colleagues have the opportunity to get your blood-pumping and your competitive spirit in full-swing as you traverse a ¼ mile asphalt track, one inch off of the ground, at speeds of up to 40mph.
Gather your team of two to six people. You’ll be served dinner, have the chance to win amazing prizes through a silent auction and opportunity drawing, free arcade games will be open for play… And you’ll have the ability to win one of three 60-lap “Endurance” (or relay) races, complete with 1st place trophies for all winners & a podium ceremony. Each team gets one kart and you take turns driving it – making sure your pit stops are quick and your team is cheering you on while they watch you swiftly pass your opponents in the turns!
NOTE: Closed-toe shoes are *mandatory*!!

In addition to benefitting The Vision of Children Foundation and Braille Institute, there is one other beneficiary. This year, the San Diego Delta Gamma alumnae chapter is especially enthusiastic about the opportunity to directly improve the lives of veterans by raising funds for Delta Gamma’s newest service endeavor founded in fall 2012, the Service for Sight: Joining Forces program. Through this program, Delta Gamma has partnered with the Department of Defense, Veterans Administration and other non-profits to provide volunteer service and fundraising to help veterans who have lost their sight while at war. The program will fund improvements to eye injury clinical care, vision research and life changing benefits for service members.
According to the Department of Defense, military men and women serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom have sustained the highest rate of eye injuries since the U.S. Civil War. An estimated 17 to 20 percent of all injuries incurred in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have been vision-related.
This program has the potential to greatly impact the veteran population of San Diego in particular, since San Diego County has the third largest population of veteran residents in the Unites States and is the number one destination for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the San Diego Chamber of Commerce."
