When & Where
Red High Heel Party
The Red High Heel Party is a group of friends, family, and neighbors in Long Beach, California, devoted to helping raise donations for a program near and dear to their hearts, The AIDS & Cancer Life Emergency Fund (ACLEF), organic to the Alliance for our Healthy Community (AHC), formerly known as the Long Beach AIDS Foundation.
In 2010, a closed friend of Co-Founder Tommy Crowe, was moving back into Long Beach, and fell terribly ill upon his arrival, which resulted in hospitalization for Pneumocystis Pneumonia (a severe complication to someone with HIV/AIDS with an extremely low CD4 count) at an area hospital. Upon release, Tommy's friend, Darrin, was without referrals for HIV Services, unaware of what area services he could apply for, being that he arrived without a job or a home. ACLEF virtually saved Darrin's life, educated him about the system quickly, so that he wouldn't lose any time before he could start receiving services to help his recovery and healing from AIDS related Pneumonia. Tommy, and Co-Founders Josh Morris & Peter Dohm, decided that in appreciation for helping Darrin out, they would host a house party to raise some donations for the very program that saved Darrin's life.
The first year, as a house party, The Red High Heel Party raised a mere $327 dollars, which was upsetting, until we found out that the money we raised, helped a client's family with burial expenses, as they couldn't afford to pay for the burial of their beloved son. The Red High Heel Party helped make one stressful situation less stressful. After that knowledge was given to us, we decided to continue forward, evolving a community fundraiser into something "Fun" and affordable, something that an everyday person wouldn't need to purchase a $500 a plate ticket, and still feel like they could make a difference.
We donate our own time and money to produce the Red High Heel Party, which 100% of ALL proceeds go to AHC & ACLEF. We don't reimburse ourselves, nor do we desire to. Yes, it's expensive to produce, but OH SO FUN TO DO! In the first 4 years, with our fundraising efforts, we have raised over $20,000! We've had themes as wild as a Twisted Carnival, to Moulin Rouge, and even a TOGA PARTY on Mount Olympus...we're always twisting things around to keep you thinking....
