When & Where
George Edgecomb Bar Association
Our bar association, affectionately known as “GEBA,” was founded in 1982 in memory of the late Honorable George Edgecomb, the first African American judge in Hillsborough County. Since its earliest days, GEBA has committed itself to uplifting the community, both by promoting diversity within the legal profession and the judiciary, and by helping make the dream of a higher education more attainable for those in need. Each year, we award at least three $1,500 cash scholarships to high-achieving African American high school students in Hillsborough County with a demonstrated need for financial assistance. We also award at least one four-year Florida prepaid scholarship to a ninth grade African American student in the Hillsborough County public school system.
