The Endurance Athlete


A symposium designed to help the sports medicine professional stay current and apply new techniques in the rehabilitation of athletes of all kinds.


Please pick one (1) breakout session for each registrant.

This course is approved for 5.0 CEUs for PT's and AT's.

Brian J. Cole , MD, MBA

Dr. Cole is a Professor in the Department of Orthopedics with a conjoint appointment in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He lectures nationally and internationally, and through his basic science and clinical research has developed several innovative techniques for the treatment of shoulder, elbow and knee conditions.

Kathleen Weber, MD, MS

Dr. Weber, the Director of Primary Care/Sports Medicine and Women's Sports Medicine at Rush University Medical Center, possesses a unique expertise with the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal issues. Dr. Weber currently serves as a team physician for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Force Women's Football, and is head team physician for DePaul University.

Simon Lee, MD

Dr. Simon Lee specializes in foot and ankle disorders with strong interests in sports-related injuries, soft tissue and bony reconstructive surgery, and fractures. He is an associated editor of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) journal, Foot and Ankle International.   He is active in the national education of orthopedic residents and fellow surgeons concerning the foot and ankle with publication in the AOFAS and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) resident publications.

Michael Terry, MD

Dr. Michael Terry grew up in the suburbs of Chicago prior to attending University of Illinois where he graduated with honors in mechanical engineering with bioengineering and pre-med minors.  He graduated with honors from University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine where he was named the top student clinically in his class.  He then went to Cornell's prestigious Hospital of Specialty Surgery where he completed his orthopedic surgery residency in New York. After residency he attended the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Clinic in Vail, Colorado for his fellowship.  He is currently practices and is an associate professor at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine.  Dr. Terry has won numerous awards including the Charles Neer award, given annually ad the most prestigious award for shoulder research.  Dr. Terry is the head team physician for the Chicago Blackhawks, USA Volleyball team, US Ski team and Northwestern University's varsity athletics.

James WInger, MD

Dr. Winger is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and he holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Primary Care Sports Medicine.  He is an assistant team physician for Loyola University Chicago, medical director of Fleet Feet Soldier Field 10 mile race and event physician at the Chicago Marathon.  He is an active researcher and author whose research interests include dehydration, hydration behaviors and foot strike biomechanics and injury risk.

Sharone Aharon, MS

Sharone Aharon is a USA Triathlon Elite Level III Coach and personal trainer.  He is the founder and head coach of Well-Fit Triathlon & Training, a coaching company in Chicago.  He has competed in all triathlon distances including seven Ironman distances races and three Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI.  He has worked with athletes at the Wingate Research Institute, Israel's Olympic Training Center.  He has also worked with the USA Triathlon national program for several years and continues to consult with the program.

Philip Malloy, MS, PT, SCS

Philip Malloy graduated with a master's of science in physical therapy from Nazareth College of Rochester, New York in 2003.  He received his Sports Clinical Specialist certification from the APTA in 2007. Phil has gained extensive experience treating hip injury through working closely with some of the nation's leading hip joint preservation surgeons and therapists.  He lectures extensively at the local national level on hip injury, rehabilitation and lower extremity biomechanics.  He serves as a faculty member in orthopedic physical therapy residency program at the University of Chicago Medical Center.  Currently, Phil is enrolled as a PhD student and research assistant at Marquette University in the biomechanics and motion analysis laboratory.  He is actively engaged in clinical and transitional research examining biomechanics of the lower extremity and the relationship to hip and lower extremity injury.  During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Molly and children Sep and Maeve.

Kristen Neisler, MEd, PT, ATC 

Kristen Neisler has practiced as a PT for 12 years and had worked as a PT/AT with NovaCare Rehabilitation and DePaul University Athletics since 2000.  She is a full time professor at DePaul teaching Sport and Fitness Management. Kristen has completed an Ironman and a marathon, and is a triathlon coach for Chicago Athletic Clubs.

Sue Walsh, DN, MEd, ATC, ACSM

Sue Walsh has been the Director of Sports Medicine at DePaul since 1997 after serving as an assistant for 5 years.  She currently holds a Doctorate in Naprapathic Medicine and applies several innovative techniques to the rehab programs of the DePaul student athletes. 

Terry McIntyre, MPT

Terry McIntyre is a Physical Therapist for NovaCare Rehabilitation.  Terry earned his bachelor's degree from University of Denver, followed by a master's in physical therapy from Northwestern University.  Terry has completed several Chicago Cyclo Cross races and is Green Level certified in Bike Fits by Bike Fit Pro.

Will Waterman, PT, DPT

Will Waterman is a Physical Therapist for NovaCare Rehabilitation.  Will earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia. He then went to Armstrong Atlantic State University to earn his doctorate degree in Physical Therapy.  He is also a recreational competitive cyclist.
