Description

This month's general meeting of the 4th Corner Fly Fishers will be held at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club on October 23, 2014. The Wet Fly will begin at 6pm with dinner at 6:45pm. The program will begin at 7:30pm and will be followed by the general membership meeting.

The program is visit from our friends at Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA). There will be two parts to the program. The first will focus on NSEA's education program - what's happening today and what our immediate plans include (15 minutes). As an accompaniment, we will show a short video about students in the Lynden area learning about Fishtrap creek. The second part will cover the portion of our recent in-stream restoration projects (30 minutes) that emphasize the removal of fish passage barriers. This seemingly routinized work continues to be one the best preparatory restoration tactics for the recovery of wild salmon runs.

Our presenters will be Adrian Shulock and Darrell Gray. Here is a little bit about each of them.

Adrian is NSEA's Development Manager and is dedicated toward improving our environment through education and restoration. Over a nine year period, he taught students of all ages about the Elwha River restoration project on the Olympic Peninsula. He's explored that area extensively and is so excited about someday witnessing a Chinook spawning deep in the National Park. Adrian is a dad of two children, a learning husband, has an MBA from WWU and loves to ride his bike. If he were a gambling salmon, he'd choose the up-and-coming Terrell creek watershed to raise his young.

Darrell is NSEA's Project Manager. He has a Bachelor of Science in Geology, a Master of Science in Aquatic Ecology, and 12 years of experience in salmonid habitat enhancement project implementation and contract management. When not out at a project site, Darrell can be found out in the bay on his sailboat with wife Renee and young daughters Maya and Willow.

Please RSVP for the membership meeting by Tuesday, October 21 by visiting http://4cff.eventbrite.com, by email at msr@deepsnow.com, or by phone at 360-319-1350. Be sure to indicate if you’ll be having dinner or just attending the meeting, and remember that a dinner reservation made is a binding commitment to pay. Also, a reminder that getting your RSVP in on time helps us provide an accurate count for the kitchen and we very much appreciate your help in placing your reservations on time!

Tight lines,
