4CFF General Meeting - November 2014
Thursday, November 20, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM (PST)
This month’s general meeting of the 4th Corner Fly Fishers will be held at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club on November 20, 2014 (Note: One week earlier than normal because of Thanksgiving the following week). The Wet Fly will begin at 6pm with dinner at 6:45. The program will begin at 7:30 and will be followed by the general membership meeting.
This month’s program is our very own Rick Todd. Rick will try to warm us up a bit with a program focused on fishing the tropical waters of Mexico! Here’s a bit more info from Rick…
As a long time member of the 4th Corner Fly Fishers I think most of you know me! If you haven't been to our house for a club picnic, you may have been to our Winthrop cabin for a fly fishing outing. Born and raised in San Jose, California, I came to Seattle for college at Seattle Pacific University (when I saw they had downhill skiing as part of their physical education program I was sold)! I went to the University of Washington for my dental training and moved to Bellingham in 1975 where I have practiced dentistry ever since. Two years ago I sold my practice and now work part time for the new owner. Patty and I love to travel and after seeing much of Europe, we are looking forward to taking extended trips around the United States in our trailer in the future (we haven't fished every state yet!) I love fly fishing of all sorts, bird hunting, downhill skiing, and hiking the back country and am enjoying introducing these things to my grand kids!
In light of the gloomy weather we have had lately, I thought a program about a warm place would be in order! Patty and I have been to Mexico many times, in Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatanejo and Cancun. We truly enjoy the different culture and Mexico makes a nice alternative to an ever more crowded and more expensive Hawaii (which we have also enjoyed visits to)! Alaska Airlines is resuming non-stop flights to Cancun this month, so you can fly to Cancun in about the same flight time as Hawaii. I really know of no place where one can take a family and have so many options for doing things. From the ruins of Chichen Itsa and Tulum, to the underwater statuary you can snorkel off Isla Mujeras, to a great aquarium, great (and affordable) restaurants, sugar sand beaches, bath tub warm water, and world class fishing for bone fish, snook, tarpon and permit. Cancun really is a great destination and one place in Mexico where I've never been sick from the water, which is totally safe to drink!
Please RSVP for the membership meeting by Tuesday, November 20 by visiting http://4cff.eventbrite.com, by email at email@example.com, or by phone at 360-319-1350. Be sure to indicated if you’ll be having dinner or just attending the meeting, and remember that a dinner reservation made is a binding commitment to pay. Also, a reminder that getting your RSVP in on time helps us provide an accurate count for the kitchen and we very much appreciate your help in placing your reservations on time.
Finally, don’t forget to hold December 18 on your calendar for the 4CFF Christmas Party. Note that this is a Thursday evening. Details coming in the next couple of weeks including information on the raffles and gift exchange along with your menu options.
