Join the Chilean Diaspora in commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Chilean coup d'etat in 1973. Local Bay Area Chilean artists will be presenting their art work and art installations inspired by their experiences since the coup throughout the La Peña building; musicians will be performing songs by Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, Patricio Manns, Rafael Manriquez and other composers of the time at the cultural room; poets will be reading anecdotes and poems related to exile and Chile in the lounge and there will be participation by visual artists in both the lounge and cultural throughout the evening. The current participating artists include: Visual artists: Pancho Pescador, Cristian Munoz, Ximena Soza, Gonzalo Hidalgo. Media artists: Hector Salgado, Aleixo Goncalves. Musicians: Hector Salgado, Mochi Parra, Lichi Fuentes, Marci Valdivieso, Ricardo Valdivieso, Fernando Torres, Alfonso Jaramillo, Jairo Rodriguez. Poets & narrators: Carlos Baron, Roberto Leni, Fernando Torres, Ximena Soza, Lisa Milos. The list of participating artists will continue to evolve as more folks confirm their participation. There will be Chilean food available for sale at the cafe and there is a $5+up donation per person at the door for the event. Proceeds go towards the Song of Unity mural renewal fund.
La Peña is a community cultural center with a national reputation and a global vision that promotes peace, social justice and cultural understanding through the arts, education and social action.

Annually, La Peña presents over 200 events with emerging and established artists; organizes an arts education program; produces new works by local artists, presents internationally and nationally renowned artists, and houses a Latin American cafe which complements the organization's mission.
