thirtieth annual tchoupitoulas barathon
may 18, 2012
the concept is 6 miles - 6 bars - 6 beers
other than a few tweaks to the course and the average length of the participants' shorts, this race is like most things in uptown new orleans - it hasn't changed much since 1983. you run or walk (or something) 6 miles, you visit 6 bars, and you drink 6 ABITA beers. You can do it fast, slow, something in between, you can improvise, and there are really only a few basic rules.
some event details
starts at 6:05pm at LE BON TEMPS ROULE (4801 magazine). proceeds to the corner of state and magazine (soon to be reginelli's), then to TJ QUILL'S (7600 maple), then to PATOIS RESTAURANT (6078 laurel), then to DOS JEFES UPTOWN CIGAR BAR (5535 tchoupitoulas), then through F&M PATIO BAR (4841 tcoupitoulas), and down bordeaux to the finish just river-side of magazine street. finish puts you right back to the start. bars must be visited in the order described. one free ABITA beer at each bar. feel free to get creative if you want something else, but be kind to the folks in the bar - we're here to provide you with ABITA beer.
afterward, expect a loosely-organized and always-entertaining awards ceremony. those who "win" can expect a custom-crafted metal creation from local artist LUIS COLMENARES. bring your guns because you'll probably do some pushups if you're a "winner". bring your appetite for consecrated (degraded?) watermelon and, of course, a thirst for ABITA beer.
custom beer koozies and the best race shirt you'll ever get are both creations of SCALLYWAG DESIGN.
new for 2012 - limited edition race poster by famed local artist BUNNY MATTHEWS.
