Description

The 3 day Group / Individual CISM combo training program is designed to present core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum. The three-day course prepares participants to understand a variety of crisis intervention services including pre and post incident crisis education, significant other support services, on-scene support services, crisis intervention for individuals, demobilizations after large-scale traumatic incidents, small group defusings, and the group intervention known as Critical Incident Stress Debriefings (CISD). This course specifically prepares participants to provide several of these interventions, specifically, defusings, Crisis Management Briefings, CISD and Peer Support / individual crisis intervention. The need for appropriate follow up services and referrals when necessary is also described. This training counts as completion of both the Basic CISM and Individual/Peer Support CISM courses.

Both of these courses are required by the State of Texas for responding to Federal or State declared disasters in Texas. Only the Group CISM course is required to be on a CISM team in West Texas. Both of these courses count towards the ICISF Certificate of Specialized Training.

The Group/Individual CISM program is open to any person who wishes to know more about crisis intervention techniques such as the CISD and the provision of Peer Support / Individual Crisis Intervention. Professionals from the fields of emergency services, law enforcement, communications, fire, hospital, Emergency Management, corrections, military, EAP, industry, human resources and mental health are typical participants.

The training is approved for 27 hours of Continuing Education through the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus, and for 27 hours or 2.7 CEU’s based on 10 contact hours per CEU’s in Texas for EMS, TCLEOSE, LPC, LMFT and Social Work.
