2nd Annual Tri-Valley Chess Tournament!
The Thomas Hart Chess Club is pleased to announce the Tri-Valley's Second Annual Chess Tournament. Last year's event was a blast with some great players and a lot of fun had by all. We hope to see everyone again this year, and have even more players. Please note this event is open to any student who wishes to attend whether they go to school in the TriValley or not. In other words, all students who want to participate are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis!
This year we are opening a new Senior division for high school students who wish to join the fun. This tournament is open to all levels - however, this is not a chess class, and a basic understanding of the rules of chess is expected.
This chess tournament is open to any student grades 1-12. The tournament will start as a "Swiss" style tournament, where players are progressively matched up with other players closer to their levels, and are ranked on a scoring system based on wins, losses and draws. Under this approach, all participants are guaranteed three tournament games. We will be using basic tournament rules, including touch move and chess clocks where appropriate.
There will be three divisions:
Junior: Grades 1-3
Middle: Grades 4-8
Senior: Grades 9-12
After the three morning qualifying rounds there will be a lunch break, and then afternoon quarter-finals, semi-finals and group team chess challenges. Parents please note that during morning qualifying rounds you will not be able to be present in the tournament area. However after the semi-finals we will have a public exhibition-style Championship match which everyone will be able to join in to watch, followed by an awards ceremony.
Please note this is not a rated or USCF-sponsored event.
Entry tickets are $15 plus processing in advance or $20 at the door, space permitting. Please note that we are limited to 30 entrants per Division, so students will be entered on a first-come, first-served basis. All proceeds will be go to support public education via Hart Middle School and their chess club.
We'd like to thank our event sponsor FunMobility for donating trophies, computers and logistical support.
This event is a great way to let your child compete in a friendly chess tournament and meet other local chess players. We hope to see you there!
