Son of a Saint Foundation (www.sonofasaint.org) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of fatherless young males through education, mentorship, mental health and sports programs.
Inspiration - Bivian Lee, Jr., was a former NFL defensive back for the New Orleans Saints from 1971- 1975. Tragically, in1984, Bivian died at the young age of 36 after suffering a heart attack. He left behind a wife, 5- year-old daughter and 3-year- old son, Bivian (Sonny) Lee, III. On Jan.1, 2011, at the age of 29 in honor of his father, Sonny established the Son of a Saint Foundation.
Once a child joins our program between the ages of 9 - 13, he stays in until he receives his acceptance letter to College. Each of the kids in our core group kids are enriched by the programs below:
I. Education. The Son of a Saint Foundation Education Program is designed to ensure that each child in our program is maintaining passing (A’s and B’s) conduct and grade point average. We receive progress reports and report cards. We provide free tutoring and are working on providing high school and college scholarships.
II. Mentorship. The Son of A Saint Foundation Group Mentoring Program is designed to aid in the academic, personal, and overall development of our males. Majority of the programs are held at colleges (University of New Orleans /Tulane) increasing the chances that the child will go to college later in life. Field Trips are taken often.
III. Mental Health. The Son of a Saint Foundation tests, coordinates and funds one on one counseling for our kids.
IV. Sports. Son of A Saint Foundation funds our kids participation in organized youth sports programs. We fund the child’s participation fees, equipment, uniforms, sporting event tickets, etc
