Event Details

Fordham University, Lincoln Center Campus, New York, NY,

April 27, 2013

There has been much activity in Hip Hop Therapy and Hip Hop Psychology since we convened at our inaugural meeting last year. The response, feedback and continued progress of the work presented at that historic event have led to this second meeting.

CONFERENCE PROGRAM: ONE MIC ONE MOVEMENT 2 PROGRAM 2013

Key questions to be addressed this year:

-How are scholars and practitioners using Hip Hop in your practice?

-What, if any, theoretical foundations are being used to guide academic research and applied work?

-What population and clinical issue(s) do scholars and practitioners address with methodology?

-What have been some of the outcomes of your research or applied work? How have scholars and practitioners assessed these outcomes?

-How significant is the use of theoretical frameworks to guide hip hop based interventions?

-What underlying theory or theories do scholars and practitioners think best explains hip hop based practices? What limitations, if any, do traditional theories have when using them to guide this innovative approach to practice?

-What new theories, conceptual frameworks, and methodologies are being developed?

The conference continues to focus on empirical research on hip hop-based interventions with youth. However, theoretical and conceptual knowledge guiding our practices is also critically important. Therefore, this year’s conference presentations that do not include empirical data will provide information on how we frame our work now and moving forward.

Presentations this year will also address theoretical issues regarding the use of hip hop in practice,  intervention, research, and other applied settings.
