Event Details

The Government and Business Matchmaker matches vendors with government and corporate spenders. The Matchmaker is an excellent opportunity for minority and women-owned small businesses, veteran-owned small business enterprises and government purchasing representatives, as well as Prime Contractors, to network.

Business entrepreneurs have the opportunity to meet with government agency representatives, supplier diversity managers and procurement directors and managers from both the government and corporate sectors. Supplier diversity managers and procurement directors will have the chance to network with small businesses throughout the region and make available opportunities that will lead to business growth immediately if not soon thereafter.

Read the steps below...

Step 2

Read the section titled “Agency/Prime needs, Vendor Criteria, and No Needs” in order to determine if the Government Agency or Prime Contractor seeks your products/services.

Step 3

If there is a match between the agency and/or prime contractors' listed need(s) and your offered products/services, please move forward with registering as a vendor for the Matchmaker.

If there is NO match or need listed with regard to your products or services, please do not register for the Matchmaker. However, please check the website on daily basis due to new Government Agency and Prime Contractor confirmations.

In addition to networking, the matchmaker will also hold workshops throughout the day on the following topics:

How to price your goods and services to the government

Presenter: Nick Hardie, Managing Consultant, New York Construction Consulting, Ltd.

This workshop will introduce government contracting and the unique nature of government clients, such as how they differ from individuals or private enterprises. The workshop will focus on pricing in general terms, such as direct costs and indirect costs. The workshop will look at specific examples of recent  requests for bids or proposals and look at the contract documents to point out where one can get an idea  of how to price a particular job. In doing so the workshop will give a couple of different examples for each scenario, such as fixedunit pricing vs. pricing based on labor.

How to do business in New York State and apply for MWBE certification

Presenter: Yvette Hall, Ombudsman Business Advisor, Division of Minority and Women’s Business  Development, Empire State Development

This workshop will focus on businesses interested in the New York State MWBE certification. By the end of the workshop, businesses will understand how they can do business in New York and how to receive their Minority and Women Business Enterprise Certification. The workshop will explain how your business can utilize the certification in doing business with New York State.

How to do business with the Department of Design and Construction

This workshop will explain how to do business with the Department of Design and Construction (DDC). Businesses will learn how to identify opportunities with the DDC, what the DDC is purchasing, how to register with the DDC, and what the DDC looks for when buying from vendors.

Business Risk - what keeps you up at night?

Presenters:Matthew P. Herrington, Financial Advisor, Northwestern Mutual and Jonathan Hernandez, Financial Representative, Northwestern Mutual

This workshop will address some key financial issues that put businesses at risk. The workshop will address issues such as risk management, employee benefits, business succession, and personal planning. Break the rules and close more sales

Presenter: David Fischer, President, Chartwell Seventeen Advisory Group, Inc.

“Break the Rules and Close More Sales” acknowledges that many sales professionals experience frustration throughout the selling process.  Often times, this frustration is caused by a feeling of not being in control when interacting with buyers.  Others feel that in order to accomplish success one must act in a subservient manner to the prospect.  This session examines some of the issues that create frustration due to the natural tension between those two roles and ways to overcome them with a new and fresh look at the selling process.

Building a business plan and strong financials

Presenters: Danilo Djuretic, Business Advisor, Small Business Development Center, LaGuardia Community College and Nikola Djordjevic, Personal Banker, Capital One

The business plan is the essential document used to raise money for a business and communicate your business vision and strategy to your management team, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders. This course walks you through the details and tactics of creating a comprehensive plan while helping you avoid the critical planning mistakes that plague most business plans.  Furthermore, we have guest speakers who will lecture on how to put together strong financial projections, provide insight on how underwriters assess financial projections and speak about the multiple avenues available for financial assistance.
