About the Event

The 2nd Annual CrossFit South Denver Bears for Kids Charity Competition is an excellent opportunity for CrossFit competitors to compete to support a great cause! First-time competitors and seasoned CrossFit competition veterans are both encouraged to come together to compete and support Denver Children's Home.

100% of the donations from the CrossFit South Denver Bears for Kids Charity Competition will go to the Denver Children's Home.

This half-day competition will feature check-in from 11:30a to Noon. Event announcements and movement standards will be discussed from noon - 12:30p. Event heats will take place at regular intervals between 12:40p and 4:40p.

The event will feature two scheduled workouts and one "float" workout. Athlete heats for the scheduled workouts will be released on the CrossFit South Denver Facebook page and crossfitsouthdenver.com the evening before the event (on October 18, 2013). The "float" workout must be completed at any time between 12:40pm and 5pm.

This event will be programmed in a "hopper" format: each of the below workouts will correspond to a ping pong ball. 30 minutes prior to the event, two of the potential full workouts and one of the potential float workouts will be chosen at random by drawing a ping pong ball from a basket. You should be able to complete all workouts as written below if you are looking to reach the podium in this competition. However, we will offer...

Scaling

If you would like to participate in this event, but would be required to scale, you are still welcome to participate! You will simply speak with your judge to select appropriate scaling prior to your heat. Scaling any event will remove you from receiving a rank/placing in this competition. Even if you can't do the workouts as written below, feel free to register and participate to support a great cause!

Bonus Event!

From now until the event, CrossFit South Denver will be accepting donations for Denver Children's Home on this website and in person at CrossFit South Denver. We will also be accepting doations the day of the event. For every $10 received in donations, Juli Bauer of PaleOMG.com and Clark Niemeyer-Thomas, owner of CrossFit South Denver, will do one burpee. Once the total donations are calculated, Juli and Clark will race to see who can complete the total burpees first. If Juli wins, Clark will donate an extra $100 to Denver Children's Home. If Clark wins, Clark will donate an extra $50 to Denver Children's Home, and Juli must make Clark a batch of paleo brownies. The more you donate, the more burpees Juli and Clark must complete!

About Denver Children's Home

Denver Children's Home restores hope and health to traumatized children and families through a comprehensive array of therapeutic, educational, and community-based services.

Denver Children's Home cares for the State of Colorado's abused and neglected children. DCH serves a significantly challenged population. 98% of the children at DCH come from families whose income levels are below federal poverty guidelines. By the time DCH's clients reach Denver Children's Home, more than a third of them have been involved in the juvenile justice system, the majority has passed through the social services system, and most have failed in one or more academic and/or mental health settings.

Denver Children's Home:

  • Provides the Most effective, but least restrictive type of treatment based on the individual needs of each child.
  • Progresses children, even those with the most serious disorders, through the levels of care and eventually return them home or to an alternative community-based setting.
  • Offers a positive alternative to psychiatric hospitalization, combining intensive therapy, individualized academic support, and advanced drug treatments for biologically based mental illnesses.
  • Helps children take ownership of their treatment, to understand their reactions and responses to life events, accept responsibility for their actions, control their behavior, and develop coping mechanisms for difficulties beyond their control.
