Course Description
The intent of this course is to provide critical guidelines to stabilize the sick neonate. Objectives: At the conclusion of this program the
participant will be able to:
 
1.   Identify neonates at risk for developing
      hypoglycemia
2.   List symptoms and treatment modalities of
      hypoglycemia
3.   Identify the detrimental effects of hypothermia
4.   Discuss the process of warming and monitoring
      severely hypothermic infants
5.   Describe the evaluation of and causes of neonatal       
      respiratory distress
6.   Interpret blood gases using the acid/base align
      ment nomogram system
7.   Discuss treatment of neonatal respiratory distress
8.   Describe causes, presentation and initial treatment
      of  hypovolemic, cardiogenic and septic shock
9.   Correlate symptoms with lab work results
10. Discuss the crisis that families face when infants
      require transport to a neonatal ICU
11. Identify ways caregivers can support families of
      sick newborns
