To celebrate the rich history of Chicago's innovation community, we invite you to attend the Past Winners Showcase on Thursday, July 17th. Hosted at Red Frog Events, a winner in 2011, this event will feature a discussion about innovation and leadership with past winners of the Chicago Innovation Awards:

Jeff Yordon, CEO, Sagent Pharmaceuticals: Ranked #1 in 2013 on Crain's "Fast Fifty", the fastest growing company in the Chicago region.

Jai Shekhawat, Co-Founder and CEO, Fieldglass: Sold Fieldglass for over $1 billion in May 2014 to SAP.

Talia Mashiach, Founder and CEO, Eved: Inducted into the Chicago Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame in 2009, named one of The Winning Women by Ernst and Young, and recognized in Crain’s Chicago 40 under 40 Class of 2010

Brian Bannon, Commissioner, Chicago Public Library: Ranked the #1 urban public library in the country and #3 in the world.  Received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service in May 2014 from Michelle Obama. 

Tom Sosnoff, CEO, dough, Ic. & tastytrade: Previously Tom founded thinkorswim, which sold to TD Ameritrade for $750 million. 

George Page, Founder and CEO, Portapure: Invented a patented technology that takes contaminated water from any lake, river, or stream and makes it safe to drink.

Jason St. Peter, Co-Founder, Business Development, Dell Center for Entrepreneurs: Founding member and creator of the Dell Center For Entrepreneurs; responsible for the go-to-market strategy and formation of the current Dell team operating the Center For Entrepreneur’s Strategy.


Before and after the panel, there will be a cocktail reception where guests can explore one of the city's most unusual office spaces, complete with tree house conference rooms, zip lines, slides, climbing walls, and other things you won't find at your office (we promise you!). Panelist Bios

 

Jeffrey Yordon

Jeffrey Yordon, founder of Sagent Pharmaceuticals, brings more than 40 years of injectables pharmaceutical experience to his company. This experience was gained by a career path that included senior level executive positions with a wide variety of pharmaceutical companies and culminated with his being an original founding member of Gensia Laboratories, LyphoMed, Faulding Pharmaceuticals and American Pharmaceutical Partners (APP), now called Fresenius. All four of these companies had extraordinary growth during Mr. Yordon’s tenure, and each was eventually sold for several billion dollars. Mr. Yordon received his BA degree from Northern Illinois University in 1970 with a degree in Political Science.  Mr. Yordon  received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 Midwest Award in the health sciences category.  He also was number 1 in the Crain’s Fast Fifty fastest growing companies in the Chicago area and was #3 on the Deloitte Fast 500 in the entire United States. 


Jai Shekhawat

Jai Shekhawat is the CEO and co-founder of Fieldglass, which makes the world's most widely used cloud platform for the procurement of contract labor and services. The Fieldglass platform has grown globally with users in 100+ countries, and over $25 billion in annual spend. He was Ernst & Young’s 2012 Midwest “Entrepreneur of the Year” as well as the 2012 recipient of the Peter Yessne Staffing Innovator Award, recognized for pioneering the Vendor Management Software (VMS) space. Jai has held various civic positions including serving on the Mayor’s Council of Technology Advisors (MCTA) for the City of Chicago and the Membership Committee of the Economic Club of Chicago and the board of TiE Midwest. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Field Museum of Chicago and is a founding member of the Firestarter Fund, which mentors and invests in Chicago start-ups. Jai holds an MBA with specializations in finance and strategy from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s degree in management science from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, India.

 

Talia Mashiach

Talia Mashiach is the CEO and Founder of Eved, an Event Commerce company that automates the buying and selling for meetings and events. Prior to launching Eved in 2010, Talia’s entrepreneurial instincts led her to build several successful technology companies and a destination event and management company in Chicago. Talia was inducted into the Chicago Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame in 2009 and named one of The Winning Women by Ernst and Young. Crain’s Chicago has listed Talia in their 40 under 40 Class of 2010 and Tech 50 list in 2012. Also, Chicago Techweek named Talia to their 100 Most Innovative Names in Chicago Technology. Talia is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and the Dell Founders Club. She sits on Chicago Major Emanuel’s Technology Industry Diversity Council and is a board member for the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center. Talia lives in Chicago with her husband and five children.


Brian Bannon

Brian Bannon serves as the commissioner of the Chicago Public Library. As the chief executive officer, he is responsible for the 80 libraries that serve Chicago’s 2.6 million residents. With more than 11 million visitors in 2013, CPL is the largest and most visited civic institution in Chicago and is among the largest public library systems in the United States. The Chicago Public Library has received national and international acknowledgement for transforming the library field with emerging technology and new approaches to learning.  This includes winning the 2013 Social Innovator for the Chicago Innovation Awards and the 2014 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. In addition, CPL was recently ranked first in the United States and third in the world by a 2013 German study examining urban libraries in the knowledge economy. Prior to leading the Chicago Public Library, Brian served in management roles at the San Francisco Public Library, Seattle Public Library, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 


Tom Sosnoff 

Tom Sosnoff is the co-CEO of dough, Inc., a newly-formed company that includes tastytrade, the fastest growing online financial network, and dough, a financial technology content aggregator. Tom is a recognized online brokerage innovator and sought-after financial educator. Tom founded thinkorswim in 1999, and tastytrade in 2011. Leveraging over 20 years of experience as a market maker for the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) and one of the original OEX traders in the S&P 100 Index pit, Tom pursued a vision to educate retail investors in options trading and to build a superior software platform at a brokerage firm that specialized in options. His efforts ultimately changed the way these instruments traded by pioneering everything from single-click complex trading functionality to multi-product access from a single platform. 


George Page

George Page, Founder and CEO of Portapure, has a decade of water filtration experience running two of the world’s largest water treatment facilities in Chicago. Prior to that he served as Regional Plant Supervisor for National Starch & Chemical Plant with direct supervision of 9 employees and annual gross sales volume of $10 million. Before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Page worked on the prototype for the Mars Pathfinder, which was launched by NASA in 1997.


Jason St. Peter (moderator)

Jason St. Peter was a founding member and creator of the Dell Center For Entrepreneurs that launched in 2012. Jason was responsible for the go to market strategy and formation of the current Dell team operating the Center For Entrepreneur’s strategy. His primary role with the Center For Entrepreneurs is business development and sales enablement strategy, which entails developing and cultivating relationships with key strategic partners and startups as well as working with Dell leadership to ensure that the Center For Entrepreneurs programing cultivates deeper relationships between Dell Sales and their customers. Jason has a bachelor of business administration and a masters in technology commercialization from the University of Texas at Austin. Outside of Dell, Jason mentors startups and entrepreneurs on the intricacies of technology commercialization and enterprise selling.
