A Place to Stand Documentary Screening
Thursday, November 20, 7:30-9:30 p.m. A Place to Stand is a documentary inspired by poet Jimmy Santiago Baca. The film follows Jimmy’s path from Estancia, New Mexico through childhood abandonment, adolescent drug dealing, a five-year narcotics sentence at Arizona State Prison in Florence, and beyond to the life he has crafted with and in writing. Jimmy Santiago Baca will be available for questions following the screening. Tickets are $10 and are a donation to the NWP.

OVERVIEW

NWP's 2014 Annual Meeting is held in conjunction with the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Convention. The meeting is designed to facilitate strategic thinking and planning opportunities for NWP sites, create time for sites to learn from each other and work together on behalf of the network, and provide a chance for the NWP office to be in conversation with site leaders and to share updates on funding, grant opportunities, and other planning.

Wednesday, November 19

5:30–8:00 p.m.: NWP Welcome Room*

Thursday, November 20 - NWP Annual Meeting

7:30–8:30 a.m.: Continental Breakfast in NWP Central

8:30–10:00 a.m.: Hanging Out: Round A Sessions

10:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.: Morning Plenary

12:15–1:15 p.m.: Lunch

1:30–3:00 p.m.: Messing Around and Geeking Out: Round B Sessions

3:30–5:00 p.m.: Messing Around and Geeking Out: Round C Sessions

5:30–7:00 p.m.: NWP Social

7:309:30 p.m.: Screening of A Place to Stand Documentary ($10)

Friday, November 21

9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.: New Directors Mini-Retreat

* All NWP Annual Meeting sessions and events will be held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.

 

MEALS

A continental breakfast and light afternoon snacks will be available in the NWP Central area on the Hotel Ballroom Level of the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center and are included in the cost of registration. Lunch and the evening social are also included.

 

LODGING

The NCTE and NWP headquarters hotel is the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. You can book directly through the NWP Room Block at the Gaylord. The conference rate is $219/night plus tax and an $18/night resort fee.

If you prefer to stay at another nearby hotel, you may search for and book your room through the NCTE housing bureau.
