Event Details

Inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Ivy Community Service Foundation of Cary, Inc. and the Sigma Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. invite you and your family to join us for a two hour presentation and discussion of Dr. King's life and teachings, the leadership and character building traits of his principles and their impact on youth to help others.

We'll launch the 40 Days of Peace effort to focus on building a peaceful community, making a difference in our own lives and in the lives of others by acting peacefully during this six week period. Each one of us can make a difference!

Our FIRST act of service will be a donation of much needed items for the Durham VA Food Pantry and Hospice Center. Please bring the following:

  • Complete Meals such as Hormel Meals, long shelf life and other packaged dinner items
  • Toothbrushes & Toothpaste
  • Body lotion

 

*Dinner will be served at the conclusion of the program.*

The Ivy Community Service Foundation, Inc. is the 501 (c) (3) nonprofit tax-exempt arm of the Sigma Tau Omega (STO) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Founded in 1998, the Ivy Community Service Foundation allows contributors and supporters to make tax-deductible contributions. These contributions fund academic and need-based educational scholarships and community service programs in the following target areas: the arts, economics, education, health and strengthening the black family.

The mission of the Ivy Community Service Foundation of Cary, Inc. is to sponsor and promote programs that serve the community in the areas of education, health, economics, and the arts.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Sigma Tau Omega

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women.

Alpha Kappa Alpha is comprised of a nucleus of 260,000 members in graduate and undergraduate chapters in the United States, the U. S. Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Canada, Japan, Germany, Korea and on the continent of Africa.

Its membership is comprised of distinguished women who boast excellent academic records, proven leadership skills, and are involved in the global community through advocacy and service. Alpha Kappa Alpha has dedicated itself to improving the quality of life for citizens worldwide and promoting peace.

The Sigma Tau Omega Chapter was chartered in Cary, NC, in 1990 and diligently provides service with a smile while holding high the standards of the 106 year-old sorority. Sigma Tau Omega strives to live up to the sorority's international mission of "Global Leadership through Timeless Service" by consistently pouring time and talents into the communities of Western Wake County and beyond.
