Event Details

Are you interested in networking with Illinois municipalities and finding out what efforts are being made to promote diversity and equal opportunity throughout the State?

Join local government and non-profit organizations at the

2014 Annual Conference of the Illinois Municipal Human Relations Association (IMHRA)!

This year's theme is "Housing: Right or Privilege?"

The 2014 Conference Panel will kick off with a morning panel that will feature representatives of federal, state and local governments who will touch on Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) compliance and recent changes to this provision. In addition, local fair housing advocates will discuss current efforts to foster a larger conversation on overcoming patterns of segregation and supporting means to advance integration for more inclusive communities. Following the panel presentation, participants will break into groups with designated facilitators to discuss ways in which local governments and citizens can tackle the challenges to promoting equal opportunity in housing throughout Illinois.

After a special luncheon, an afternoon panel will discuss the issue of homelessness and update attendees on recent legislative efforts to provide more expansive protections for individuals facing housing emergencies. This panel of experts will touch on the Bill of Rights for the Homeless Act, the HEARTH Act, and the creation of the Statewide Illinois Interagency Council on Homelessness. Following the panel presentation, participants will break into groups with designated facilitators to discuss how local governments and citizens can work together to make efforts and navigate challenges to implementing creative solutions.
