Please join us at our 2014 Leadership Academy Graduation to celebrate the accomplishments of our 2014 cohorts of leaders and change makers. The Academy Graduation is an opportunity to be inspired by this year’s graduates as they reflect on their transformative experience and share their vision for leadership as they embark on new journeys. Cocktail reception, dancing and fun to follow.
We are honored to have Carla Peterman as our distinguished keynote speaker. Carla J. Peterman is the California Public Utilities Commission’s assigned Commissioner for the Renewable Portfolio Standard, alternative transportation and energy storage proceedings. Commissioner Peterman’s previous positions include: California Energy Commissioner, researcher at the University of California Energy Institute and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and investment banking associate at Lehman Brothers.
We are proud to honor the following graduates:
Distinguished Alumnus - Sam Kang
Greenlining will also be honoring Sam Kang (Associate 2005) as a distinguished alumnus, who for over 9 years, has been an important member of the Greenlining team. Sam Kang is Greenlining’s former General Counsel, having served from 2010-2014. As the organization’s chief attorney, he provided Greenlining’s strategic direction when engaging powerful adversaries. In 2011, Sam led a successful national campaign to block the biggest telecom merger in U.S. history. He’s also written and passed legislation impacting smallbusinesses, the green economy, and education. Sam regularly authored one of Greenlining’s most heralded reports, the annual Supplier Diversity Report Card, which grades the supplier diversity efforts of California’s largest utilities. While it's bittersweet to see him leave, we know that he's moving on to bigger things, and that his service and commitment to our communities will be stronger than ever.
When & Where
The Greenlining Institute
We envision a nation where communities of color thrive and race is never a barrier to economic opportunity.
Founded in 1993, The Greenlining Institute envisions a nation where communities of color thrive and race is never a barrier to economic opportunity. Because people of color will be the majority of our population by 2044, America will prosper only if communities of color prosper. Greenlining advances economic opportunity and empowerment for people of color through advocacy, community and coalition building, research, and leadership development. We work on a variety of major policy issues, from the economy to environmental policy, civic engagement and many others, because economic opportunity doesn’t operate in a vacuum. Rather than seeing these issues as being in separate silos, Greenlining views them as interconnected threads in a web of opportunity.
