2014 CEC Annual Workshop on Electrochemistry

Each year, the CEC Annual Workshop on Electrochemistry brings together experts in fields of engineering, materials, and electrochemistry to focus on a few topics in an important areas of electrochemical research. Electrochemistry is the foundation for chemical transducers and sensors and is poised to play an increasing role in the analysis of chemical and biological interfaces; and for the high-resolution study of ion/charge transport and dynamics, electron transfer, adsorption, and chemical toxicity. Participants address specific challenges in the field, exchange ideas and information, and catch up with colleagues from around the world.
This exclusive workshop features scientists and researchers from top universities, national laboratories, and electrochemical industries discussing cutting-edge electrochemical science, and addressing issues with respect to the mechanisms of electron transfer. We anticipate a day of great speakers, with a casual atmosphere that fosters interaction between students, postdocs, faculty, representatives from industry, and national labs.
The workshop features technical presentations and posters from several different perspectives covering areas ranging from electrocatalysis, electrochemical sensors, and electroanalysis. The 2014 CEC Annual Workshop on Electrochemistry will be held February 8-9, 2014 and will focus on three main topic areas: Electrocatalysis, Nanoelectrochemistry, and Electrochemistry for Sustainability.
This year, the Workshop will be held at the Robert A. Welch Bulding (Welch Hall, or WEL) on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin.
The workshop location is near to the many recreational and cultural attractions of the Austin Hill Country.The Austin campus is the site of 17 libraries and several world-class museums, and just a short walk or ride away fromcentral Austin attractions: the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum, the Texas State Capitol, Congress Avenue, and the 6th Street and Warehouse shopping and entertainment districts. Known as "The Live Music Capital of the World," Austin is a vibrant mix of Texas friendliness and cosmopolitan sophistication, with opportunities for outdoor recreation activities. The weather in Austin during February can be cool, but is generally mild: the average high is 65 F (18 C) and the average low is 44 F (7 C).

Attendees are invited to present posters at the poster session/reception scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 4:30-7:00 pm. To present a poster, you must first register for the Workshop. You don’t need a final title for your poster until January 10, 2014. We will re-confirm with you and request titles. You can also email Angie Missildine at email@example.com if you decide to present a poster after you have already registered. Poster space may be limited, so we encourage you to register early.
The CEC Annual Workshop on Electrochemistry is made possible in part by funding from the Robert A. Welch Foundation (Grant H-F-0037) and from The University of Texas at Austin.
This year, the workshop venue is not The AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center, however that is still the closest hotel to Welch Hall, where the symposium takes place.

The Center for Electrochemsitry (CEC) was established in 2006 to capitalize on a half century of excellence in electrochemistry at The University of Texas at Austin to foster collaborative research programs in the electrochemical sciences. Our broad mission is to advance research and solve problems, fundamental or applied, related to transfer of electrons or ions at interfaces. The CEC offers a strong coupling between fundamental electrochemistry and materials science, fields that are the foundation for widespread applications in diverse fields such as energy and health. We are comprised of a multi-disciplinary group of more than 250 faculty, staff, and student researchers spanning the chemistry, materials, and engineering aspects of electrochemical science.
