Online registration is now closed for the 2014 Bowman Cup 5k Race. Day-of registration will be available at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on Saturday, Oct. 18 beginning at 6:30 a.m.
About the Race
Join us for the 14th Annual Bowman Cup 5k Race on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014. The race, named after fedora-loving former Kent State University President Dr. George Bowman, will begin at 8 a.m.
Participants are welcome to enjoy other Homecoming activities throughout the day, including the Homecoming Parade, Alumni Hospitality Tent and the Homecoming Football game against Army.
NEW! Bowman Cup Virtual Race
New this year is the inaugural Bowman Cup Virtual Race. Open to everyone, the virtual race allows runners to participate in the Bowman Cup from anywhere in the world. Virtual runners are expected to run a 5k at 8 a.m. EST on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014.
Individuals interested in the Bowman Cup Virtual Race must register by Friday, Oct. 3, 2014. Participants will receive their virtual runner packet the week of the race, featuring their official Bowman Cup performance T-shirt, a Bowman Cup travel cup and other goodies. Virtual race participants will not qualify for placement awards or door prizes.
Virtual racers can join in the fun on social media by using the #BowmanCup hashtag and submitting their pictures online. All virtual runners will be represented on a map of the world, displayed in the lobby of the SRWC.
Due to insurance limitations, headphones, baby joggers, inline skates, animals, etc. are not permitted. Recreational Services reserves the right to refuse any entry.
Early race check-in will take place on Friday, Oct. 17 at the SRWC from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Early race check-in is available for all participants who registered BEFORE Tuesday, Oct. 14. Anyone registered after this date will need to check in the morning of the race.
Runners may also check-in before the race from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. in the lobby of the SRWC.
Cancellation policy: Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable to another person, event or year. The Bowman Cup will be held rain or shine.
About the Course
The chip-timed race begins and ends in front of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC). The state-of-the-art facility offers free parking for the event, indoor registration, restrooms and locker rooms.
This USATF certified course through Kent’s residential area follows the Portage Hike and Bike Trail, letting participants enjoy its scenic route through Kent State University’s surrounding community. You can visit our website to download a course map or take a video tour of the course.

*Free child care is available for children ages 18 months - 8 years old with at least one parent or legal guardian registered for the race. Child care will be provided by Kent State University's Child Development Center. Preregistration will be required per child.
Overall Winners: Overall winners (male and female) will receive cash prizes, a fedora hat and a signature Bowman cup.
