2014 Arts and Culture Roundtable with David Gilbert of Positively Cleveland

As Cleveland’s Convention & Visitors Bureau, Positively Cleveland strives to drive economic impact and stimulate community vitality for Greater Cleveland through leisure and business travel.
Cleveland is in the midst of an unprecedented $2.7 billion investment in visitor-related projects, including the Convention Center & Global Center for Health Innovation, Horseshoe Casino Cleveland, Museum of Contemporary Arts, Cleveland Museum of Art Expansion, Phase I of Flats East Bank Projects, and at least five new hotel projects. And, there's more to come over the next three years.
In anticipation of these developments, Positively Cleveland conducted extensive local and national research to determine how best to capitalize on these investments to ensure their impacts are felt well into the future. The outcomes of this research identified significant opportunities to both change the narrative about Cleveland as a visitor destination and enhance the experiences of visitors to Cleveland.
While Positively Cleveland will continue to focus on marketing and selling Cleveland as a visitor destination, we are now also focused on seamlessly delivering a consistent brand experience through six strategic initiatives, which David Gilbert, President & CEO, will share in more depth during this presentation:
- Legibility and Wayfinding Initiative
- Best-in-Class Information Initiative
- Physical Improvements to Streetscapes Initiative
- Programming to Improve Visitor Hospitality
- Local Perception Campaign
- New Destination Brand Launch
These initiatives will ensure visitors come to Cleveland, enjoy their visit, and return for repeat visits.
David E. Gilbert is President & CEO of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and Positively Cleveland. Positively Cleveland is a private non-profit civic organization that generates demand for business and leisure tourism to the region to improve economic vitality. The organization’s efforts contribute to the region’s $13 billion tourism industry and support the 163,000 jobs created by 29 million visitors to the 17-county region. The Sports Commission’s goal is to make Greater Cleveland the nation’s foremost destination for amateur sporting events and activities. The organization is responsible for attracting, promoting and managing major amateur athletic events and to create sporting opportunities for youth and amateur athletes.
