Lace up your running shoes for one of Charleston's FINEST trail runs! The 4th Annual Almost 9 Miler Trail Run starts at Buck Hall Recreation Area and sends participants on an excellent adventure on the Awendaw Passage leg of the Palmetto trail. Participants will run to Rosa Green Road (AKA 25 mile road), hit the aid station and head back to Buck Hall. The trailhead at Buck Hall National Recreation Area provides parking and bathroom facilities for trail users.
For the past 4 years we have based the starting format on the oldest trail race in America, the Dipsea Race. Runners are given a head start based on their age/gender the day of the event.
Prizes are awarded to the top FIVE finishers and
the youngest/oldest participants.
About the trail:
The Awendaw Passage is the coastal terminus of the Palmetto Trail, ending at the Intracoastal Waterway. This single track trail follows Awendaw Creek through beautiful areas of the coastal forest.
Running under the cover of palmetto trees and old oak trees draped in Spanish moss, passing remnants of shell mounds and trying not to trip over your feet while taking in the view, you are sure to remember this event as one of the most scenic trail runs you have ever completed.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to The Palmetto Conservation Foundation for trail maintenance.
Homemade veggie soup will be available to the runners after the event.
