The Mannes Community Orchestra provides instrumentalists in the New York City area with an opportunity to engage their community through music. Our orchestra is comprised of community members, students, and faculty from Mannes and The New School. Participants come together to hone their skills, network with like-minded musicians, build lasting friendships, and perform throughout the year. Orchestral instrumentalists with various backgrounds are welcome.
The Mannes Community Orchestra will perform four times during the 2014-2015 season. The repertoire is drawn from a range of musical periods and styles. Rotating conductors provide expertise and the opportunity to experience different rehearsal and conducting styles for each concert. Tentative programs for each concert are listed with the rehearsal and performance schedule below.
The Mannes Community Orchestra is open to all New School students, alumni, faculty, staff, administration, and the general public. The Mannes Community Orchestra can also serve as the ensemble requirement for the Mannes NEXT Program.
Interested participants attend a short placement audition/interview on Wednesday, September 3 (during the regular orchestra rehearsal time). These auditions serve as a check in to help our conductors get to know orchestra participants, and make seating and part assignments as necessary. The Mannes NEXT office will contact you with an audition time upon receiving your registration confirmation.
