What is it like to be a young person today? What pressures do they face? What impact do they want to have on the world?
At the Youth Arts Festival, more than 100 young people from nine schools across Central Texas showcase their deeply moving work, including plays, film, photography, sculpture, poetry and more.
The Youth Arts Festival is for everyone:
More than a display of art, the 2013 Youth Arts Festival is the culmination and final sharing of work created as part of the Creative Action program, which helps young people build social and emotional skills they'll use for the rest of their lives.
The work of these students sheds a light on what it's like to be a young person today.
A welcome at 1 p.m. will be followed by stage performances. Attendees will break to the galleries to view photography and artwork, then move to the screening room to watch films. The event will end with a final performance by the 20120-13 Changing Lives Youth Ensemble, a collaborative project of Creative Action and SafePlace.
The seventh annual Youth Arts Festival is a FREE community event and all urged to attend. Each year the students' work blows the audience away with its powerful emotion and voice.
Don't miss this celebration of self-expression by local Austin teens!
NOTE: Families and friends are welcome but please note that artists' work will cover topics like bullying, peer pressure, media pressure and more.
The mission of Creative Action is to spark and support the academic, social and emotional development of young people. Through interactive classroom performances, after school arts residencies and community-based programs, Creative Action’s team of professional Teaching Artists inspire youth to be creative artists, courageous allies, critical thinkers, and confident leaders in their community.
