Voices of the Sea:
The Poetry and Song of Maine's Fishermen and Those Who Work on the Water
Maine Maritime Museum will host its 2nd annual fishermen poetry reading at DiMillo’s On the Water on the Portland waterfront. This unique gathering, called Voices of the Sea: The Poetry and Song of Maine’s Fishermen and Those Who Work on the Water will feature working fishermen and those who work on the sea reading their own original work, poems and songs that examine their water-borne careers through verse.
The event will take place on the upper deck of DiMillo’s On the Water which makes the perfect venue for an event like Voices of the Sea. Portland's working waterfront and views of draggers and lobster boats tied up to the wharves are just outside the window and when you talk about commercial fishing, the restaurant is the end-user, the end of the chain that starts with the working fishermen.
DiMillo’s On the Water will have a cash bar open starting at 6pm and during the poetry reading and of course you can enjoy some fine seafood downstairs in the restaurant before or after the event.
Maine Maritime Museum offers a myriad of opportunities to explore Maine’s maritime heritage and culture and to experience the mystique of Maine.
