The 26th Annual Riordan Programs Gala

It's that time of year again...The 26th Annual Riordan Programs Gala is roaring in to 2013!

On March 9th 2013, grab your fur stole, your spats, and practice your Charleston moves as the evening pays homage to the 1920s. Please join the Riordan Fellow class of 2013 for a wonderful black tie, casino night affair. The evening will be filled with live music, speeches from our distinguished honorees and philanthropic revelry with a silent and live auction.

Here's what else we have planned for the evening:

Casino Games!

Live Entertainment!

Exciting Raffle Prizes! (Vacation rentals, wine tastings, group cooking classes etc)

Speciality cocktails!

We will also be honoring Dean Judy Olian, Cesar Alvarado and present a special Lifetime Achievement Award to the Little Rock Nine.

Judy Olian, Dean, UCLA Anderson School of Management

Judy D. Olian, Ph.D., is the eighth dean of UCLA Anderson School of Management and is the John E. Anderson Chair in Management.  She began her appointment in January 2006 after serving more than five years as dean and professor of management at the Smeal College of Business Administration at Pennsylvania State University.

Under her leadership, UCLA Anderson has hired a record number of faculty from the world’s best research institutions, launched new degree and certificate programs, initiated a diverse set of global degree and immersion courses, and developed targeted partnerships with an emphasis on Asia and Latin America.

Cesar Alvarado, Riordan Scholar Class of 1989

In 1989, Cesar was a low-income immigrant from El Salvador at Belmont High in Los Angeles, CA. He was invited to attend a Saturday session at UCLA one Saturday and it was the first time he'd ever walked onto a college campus. 8 years later through hard work, dedication and perseverance, Cesar received his JD from UCLA in 1997.

Currently, Cesar litigates complex commercial cases with an emphasis on multi-party environmental tort litigation, products liability, premises liability and general litigation. He is based in Walnut Creek and is a member of the Contra Costa County Bar Association, Contra Costa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the East Bay La Raza Lawyers Association.

Ernest Green, The Little Rock Nine

The Little Rock Nine were a group of African-American students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957. The ensuing Little Rock Crisis, in which the students were Arkansas Govener, and then attended after the intervention of President Eisenhower, is considered to be one of the most important events in the African American Civil Rights Movement.

Accepting this award will be Ernest G. Green. Mr. Green and eight other black students were the first to integrate Central High following the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education that declared segregation illegal. They later would become known as the "Little Rock Nine."
